Hawkins Steel Ltd won the project to renovate an external staircase in the heart of Oxford. It was extremely important to the client that as much of the original staircase was to be preserved and repaired. The cast iron stair case was carefully removed from site and brought back to our manufacturing facility, we then removed all the ornate spindles and shot blast to remove the original paint and corrosion.
A new frame work and handrail was the manufactured to comply with the current regulations. The original spindles were repaired, extended and re-fitted into the new handrail. New landings and stair treads were produced and individually cast to match the original features of the staircase. The stair case was trial erected, then powder coated to match the original specification and finish. Hawkins Steel Ltd then installed back into the domestic property in Oxford, to delight of the occupier, who was thrilled with the end result and that we had managed to keep and replicate so many of the original features of the staircase.
