Major Roof Refurbishment Project

Major Roof Refurbishment Project

Hawkins Roofing Ltd completed a comprehensive strip and re-sheet roofing project, removing asbestos roof sheets and replacing them with composite roof sheets over a large manufacturing facility in Birmingham.

The main goals of the project were to prioritise safety and minimise disruption to production. We have significant experience managing live sites, with the health and safety of the client’s teams and our employees being paramount. When working with a new client, we take the time to explain how we can safely handle the removal of asbestos roof sheets in a controlled manner, including the process and technical monitoring that will be carried out throughout the project.

The unique roof pitch presented several challenges to our teams, particularly minimizing manual handling with the new roof sheets. We used a vacuum lift to hoist the panels into position, reducing manual handling and ensuring precise installation. We rigorously implemented safety measures to work around active furnaces, saws, and stretching machines, and obtained all necessary permits from local authorities and carefully planned the logistics.

Post-construction, roof access and safety were also crucial for our client. We designed and installed a collective safe system to minimize risks associated with roof access, ensuring safety for all post-installation.

This complex project demonstrated our ability to adapt and overcome significant challenges, resulting in a seamless transition to a safer and more efficient roofing system.
